Sanctuary of Colors [Elements of Design]

Another photo in my National Cathedral series taken the end of November. It is my own interpretation of a similar area photographed by fellow BPer and photo buddy, Chris Budny. Chris(a docent at the cathedral) invited me into the cathedral before opening hours one morning to photograph the displays of colors that beam into this corridor during the fall months when the sun is lower in the sky. We had lots of fun that morning going up and down this one corridor photographing all the beauty. According to Chris, this was the best time of year to photograph the cathedral as the colors are at their peak. Wilson's Tomb is centrally located in this corridor. The colors that come off from the windows there transform the entire area as well as gives a superb view of colors transcending down the entire hallway. It's just beautiful!

Christopher J. Budnymember since: 10/3/2005 I can't resist commenting on this... You know I love seeing what other people shoot at the cathedral; this is brilliant! You've managed to create impressive depth, and suggest great height---and this is not a "tall" section of the cathedral, relatively speaking. I love the vault ribbing being visible in your comp, plus the on-center alignment of the receding arches, and your editing overall... Fantastic work, Sue!!

member since: 7/18/2006 Thanks so much, Chris! Your comment means a lot to me and I am really happy that you think so highly of this. I was definitely inspired by your own wonderful work in this area. I did try to do this in my own photography style, which is to get an overall wide view from floor to ceiling and a long shot showing the succession of arches. I just love shots like that. And just love the architecture in this wonderful place. It's been such a joy to photograph.
